Damian Lillard Takes on GM Role at Weber State

OGDEN, Utah — Just weeks after returning to the Portland Trail Blazers, NBA star Damian Lillard is taking on a new role: general manager of his alma mater's basketball program. Lillard, who played for Weber State from 2008-2012, announced the news at the sixth annual Weber State Basketball Alumni Classic.

In a news release, Weber State said that Lillard “will work closely with the coaching staff and athletic department leadership to provide insight, mentorship, and guidance, using his experience at the collegiate and professional levels to elevate the program.”

Lillard, a nine-time NBA All-Star, has a long history with Weber State, where he finished his degree, had his jersey retired, and was inducted into the WSU Athletics Hall of Fame. “This opportunity allows me to be even more involved in shaping the future of Weber State basketball,” he said.

This new role comes at a time when Lillard is recovering from a ruptured left Achilles, an injury he sustained during his two seasons with the Milwaukee Bucks. He is not expected to play during the 2025-26 season. His new role at Weber State will be an additional way for him to stay involved in basketball.
