Brotherly Shove: Celtics Turn Sixers into Liberty Bell Scraps

Brotherly Shove: Celtics Turn Sixers into Liberty Bell Scraps

BOSTON — If you tuned into TD Garden on Sunday expecting a heavyweight clash between two of the NBA’s most historic franchises, you instead witnessed a 48-minute instructional video on how to dismantle a basketball team. The Boston Celtics treated the Philadelphia 76ers like a JV squad in a 123-91 Game 1 beatdown that was about as competitive as a spelling bee against a dictionary.

While the ghosts of Russell, Wilt, Bird, and Dr. J were watching from the rafters, the current iteration of the Green Team was busy turning the Sixers into a "Before" picture.

The Jaylen & Jayson Variety Hour

Jaylen Brown didn't just play basketball; he went on a personal quest to ruin lives in the third quarter. Brown dropped a game-high 26 points, 16 of which came during a third-frame scoring binge that essentially turned out the lights on Philly.

Not to be outdone, Jayson Tatum—who apparently decided that a "torn Achilles" is more of a suggestion than a medical condition—looked like he never left. Tatum stuffed the stat sheet with 25 points, 11 rebounds, 7 assists, and 2 steals. At this rate, the hero’s arc is leaning less toward "comeback player" and more toward "superhero origin story."

Philly’s Perimeter Pandemic

If there was a basket at the TD Garden, the Sixers certainly couldn't find it from distance. Philadelphia shot a nauseating 17.4% (4-for-23) from three-point land. To put that in perspective, the Celtics made 16 triples. If the Sixers were trying to build a new stadium out of bricks, they’re ahead of schedule.

Tyrese Maxey tried to lead the underdog charge, but without Joel Embiid (who is currently recovering from an appendectomy—the latest in the "Embiid Playoff Injury Bingo"), the Sixers lacked the interior gravity to stop the bleed. Rookie VJ Edgecombe showed flashes, but "flashes" don't win games when you're being outscored by 32.

Sanchez Sideline: Takeaway Table

Key Stat Boston Celtics Philadelphia 76ers

Top Scorer Jaylen Brown (26) Tyrese Maxey (Struggled)

Splash Zone 16-44 (36.4%) 4-23 (17.4%)

Double-Double Jayson Tatum (25p/11r) Non-existent

The "Ouch" Factor 32-point margin Appendectomy (Embiid)

The Sanchez Slant: The Sixers didn't just lose; they got "Joker-fied" without the laughs. Philadelphia’s offense looked like it was stuck in a revolving door, and its defense had all the resistance of wet tissue paper. If Joel Embiid doesn't return with a bionic appendix by Tuesday, this series might be over before the Liberty Bell stops ringing from the vibration of all those missed threes.

Up Next: Game 2, Tuesday at 7 p.m. ET. Expect more of the same unless Philly finds a shooting coach or a time machine. 🍀📉
