Short King Spring? Nope, It’s Just a Grumpy Winter for Draymond

It is the week of Christmas, and while most of us are frustrated with tangled lights or last-minute shopping, Draymond Green is frustrated with physics. specifically, the laws of physics that say "Mass = Force," and the fact that he is currently surrendering about 50 pounds of mass to the guys he has to wrestle every night.

It has been a vintage "Draymond Drama Week" in the Bay. First, he got ejected against the Suns on Saturday (a holiday tradition unlike any other). Then, he got into a shouting match with Steve Kerr on Monday vs. the Magic and sat out most of the second half.

Why is the four-time champ so cranky? According to reports, he’s tired of playing center. And honestly, can you blame him?

The "David vs. Goliath" Fatigue

ESPN’s Marc J. Spears reports that Draymond is "frustrated" with having to guard centers who are 40 to 50 pounds heavier than him every single night.

Imagine your job description is "Go fight that refrigerator over there." Now imagine the refrigerator is 7 feet tall and has elbows. That is Draymond’s life right now.

The Warriors tried to fix this. They signed veteran Al Horford this offseason to be the designated "Large Human." The plan was perfect: Al wrestles the giants, Draymond roams free like a majestic defensive gazelle.

The problem? Horford’s back has acted its age. The veteran has played in only 13 of 30 games. Without him, and with young center Quinten Post still on a minutes restriction, the 6-foot-6 Green is back in the trenches, giving up six inches of height and a small child’s worth of weight to opposing bigs.

Steve Kerr in the Crossfire

The frustration boiled over on Monday. Draymond and Head Coach Steve Kerr got into a "heated exchange" on the bench. We don’t know exactly what was said, but we assume it was something like:

Draymond: "I am too short for this!"

Kerr: "Please just play defense!"

Draymond: "You go guard Bol Bol then!"

A Christmas Miracle?

There is a glimmer of hope. Kerr mentioned that Horford might return from his back injury for the Christmas Day matchup against the Dallas Mavericks.

If Horford plays, Draymond gets a break from the wrestling match. If not, we might see Draymond try to eject himself just to avoid another night of banging bodies in the post.

Draymond Green is still the heart of the Warriors, but right now, that heart is tired of getting squashed. All he wants for Christmas is a center.
