Hook ‘Em, Book ‘Em: Madison Booker Rewrites the Record Books
If you were looking for a "Rebel Yell" in the SEC semifinals, you were out of luck. Instead, all we heard was the sound of Madison Booker doing things that haven’t been done since the turn of the millennium. In a performance that can only be described as "offensive arson," the No. 4 Texas Longhorns dismantled Ole Miss 85-68 to punch their ticket to the SEC Championship game.
Booker didn't just have a good night; she had a "stat-sheet-stuffer" fever dream. With 31 points, 11 rebounds, and 5 assists, she became the first player this century to hit those marks in an SEC tournament game. I’m not saying she’s a cheat code, but I’m pretty sure the Ole Miss defenders are currently filing a formal grievance with the league office.
The Twin Towers of the Paint
While Booker was busy passing Vicki Hall to move into 6th on the Texas all-time scoring list, she had plenty of help in the trenches:
Kyla Oldacre: Notched 19 points and 8 boards. More impressively, she went 10-for-10 from the free-throw line. That’s not a stat; that’s a miracle.
Jordan Lee: Added 14 points, marking her 26th double-digit game of the season. At this point, double figures for Lee are as predictable as a Texas summer.
Rori Harmon: Dished out 7 assists, moving her career total to 939. She’s now just six assists away from the NCAA all-time top 10. If she were a waiter, she’d be getting 50% tips every night.
The Longhorns treated the paint like their personal gated community, outscoring the Rebels 44-30 under the rim. Between the 8 blocks and 7 steals, Ole Miss had an easier time getting through airport security than they did getting to the basket.
Thirty Is the New Twenty
With this win, Texas hits the 30-win mark for the third straight season. They also notched their 13th win against a ranked opponent this year—the most in the entire country. If you're looking for a team that isn't afraid of a "big stage," you've found them. They shot 53% from the field, which is essentially the basketball equivalent of never missing a green light on your way to work.
"She's just different," a fan might say. But the numbers say she's historic. Booker now has 1,855 career points, and she’s looking for more.
The Main Event
The victory sets up a "Clash of the Titans" on Sunday. It’s No. 1 South Carolina vs. No. 4 Texas for the SEC crown. Dawn Staley vs. Vic Schaefer. The Unstoppable Force meets the... well, another Unstoppable Force.
The Longhorns are 30-3 and riding a seven-game heater. The Gamecocks haven't lost a conference game since the invention of the wheel. Something has to give.
Tip-off is at 3:00 p.m. EDT on ESPN. Set your DVRs, grab your popcorn, and maybe a stress ball.
