34-0: The Dynasty of Perfection Continues as UConn Claims Big East Crown
UNCASVILLE, CONN. – There’s "dominance," and then there’s whatever the No. 1 UConn Huskies are doing to the Big East. On Monday night at Mohegan Sun Arena, the Huskies secured their 31st conference tournament title (and 24th in the Big East) by steamrolling the No. 2 seed Villanova Wildcats, 90-51.
The trophy presentation felt like a formality. At 34-0, UConn isn't just playing for wins anymore—they are playing for history. With this victory, they’ve pushed their conference winning streak to a staggering 70 games.
The Sanchez Audit: Tournament Hardware
When you play this well, the individual accolades are inevitable.
The MOP: Sarah Strong walked away with the Big East Tournament Most Outstanding Player award, and for good reason. She dropped 18 points and grabbed 8 boards in the finale, capping off a weekend where she looked virtually unguardable.
Fudd’s Fire: Azzi Fudd led all scorers with 19 points and swiped 3 steals. She hasn't just returned to form; she’s redefined it.
Arnold’s All-Around Mastery: KK Arnold earned her spot on the All-Tournament Team with a "do-it-all" stat line: 10 points, 7 assists, 4 rebounds, and 3 steals. Her vision and defensive pressure are the reasons Villanova was held to a miserable 27.2% from the field.
The Breakdown: Early and Often
UConn didn't wait for the anthem to finish before it started the rout. They jumped out to an 11-3 lead, forcing Villanova into an early timeout that did absolutely nothing to slow the bleeding. Every single UConn starter scored during an initial 10-0 run, effectively ending the competitive portion of the evening before the second quarter even began.
The Huskies went into the locker room up by 26, shooting a clinical 52.3% from the floor. They also bullied the Wildcats on the glass, maintaining a 49-34 rebounding advantage. Villanova’s Dani Ceseretti tried to keep things respectable with 11 points, but by the time Geno Auriemma started emptying his bench in the third, the lead was already untouchable.
The Road to No. 13
The conference era of the 2025-26 season is closed. The Huskies have swept through the Big East without a scratch. Now, the stakes get real.
The Sanchez Snap: 34 have stepped up, and 34 have been sat down. The Huskies find out their NCAA Tournament path this Selection Sunday. Whether they tip off on March 20 or 21, the mission remains the same: a 13th National Championship. Stay locked in.
