### ***Ninety-six points, 12 touchdowns and one failed two-point conversion later, Riverview walked out of the Ram Bowl with the win — and everybody else walked out needing a minute.***

**SARASOTA, Fla. —** Defense was apparently optional at the Ram Bowl Friday night.

Drama? Mandatory.

The **Sanchez Sideline Game of the Week** turned into a full-blown track meet as Riverview Sarasota outlasted Manatee **49–47** in a Week 5 thriller that somehow managed to get crazier the longer it went.

Riverview improved to **4–1**. Manatee fell to **3–2**.

But records don't really explain this one.

**Ninety-six combined points. Twelve touchdowns. A two-point margin. And an onside kick standing between Riverview and a completely different Saturday morning.**

Yeah. We picked the right Game of the Week.

## **Somebody Tell the End Zones to Take a Break**

Riverview's **Grayson Bussiere** got the scoring started with a 5-yard touchdown run, but Manatee's **Deno Dalacas** answered with a 12-yard rushing score.

That pretty much established the theme for the night:

**You score. We score. Repeat until somebody runs out of time.**

Riverview's **Justin Flores** punched in a 3-yard touchdown before Bussiere returned for another, this time from one yard out.

Manatee wasn't interested in letting the Rams get comfortable.

Quarterback **Nolan Downes** connected with Dalacas for an 11-yard touchdown, and Riverview responded with Bussiere's third rushing score of the night, a 4-yard trip to the end zone.

Three touchdowns for Bussiere.

And somehow, we were just getting warmed up.

## **Manatee Refused to Go Away**

The Hurricanes kept coming.

**Caedon White** scored from two yards out, then Downes found **Tavares Powell** for an 18-yard touchdown.

Every time Riverview appeared ready to create some breathing room, Manatee basically said, *Nah, we're good.*

Flores scored again for Riverview, this time from six yards.

White answered with his second rushing touchdown, a 4-yard score.

And then Flores decided six yards wasn't dramatic enough.

The Riverview back broke loose for a **34-yard touchdown**, his third rushing score of the game, giving the Rams another huge answer in a night full of them.

Between Bussiere and Flores, Riverview's ground game accounted for **six rushing touchdowns**.

Subtle? No.

Effective? Very.

## **Manatee Had One Last Shot**

And this is where the Ram Bowl probably started running low on fingernails.

Manatee still wasn't done.

In the fourth quarter, Downes connected with **Deionne Holloway for a 22-yard touchdown**, dragging the Hurricanes right back to Riverview's doorstep.

**49–47.**

Manatee went for two with a chance to tie.

**No good.**

Okay, game over, right?

Please.

This game hadn't done anything easy all night.

Manatee attempted the onside kick, needing one recovery and one final drive to potentially turn the entire night upside down.

**Riverview recovered it.**

Finally.

**Exhale, Ram Bowl.**

## **Riverview Survived — And “Survived” Is the Right Word**

There are wins where you dominate.

There are wins where you control the fourth quarter, take a knee, and start thinking about where you're eating afterward.

Then there's whatever **this** was.

Riverview had to keep scoring because Manatee simply would not disappear.

Bussiere scored three times.

Flores scored three times.

And when the offense had finally done enough, the Rams' hands team secured the football that mattered most.

It wasn't pretty.

It definitely wasn't peaceful.

But **49–47 counts the same in the win column as 49–7.**

Maybe just with a little more blood pressure medication.

## **Manatee Scored 47 — And Still Lost**

That's a rough sentence.

The Hurricanes produced **seven touchdowns** and scored 47 points on the road.

Usually, that's when you take the victory photo, turn the music up on the bus and enjoy the ride back to Bradenton.

Not Friday.

Downes threw three touchdown passes, connecting with Dalacas, Powell and Holloway. Dalacas also scored on the ground, while White added two rushing touchdowns.

Manatee threw everything it had at Riverview.

The Hurricanes were ultimately **two points short**.

No moral victories here. But anyone looking at the final score and assuming Riverview handled Manatee comfortably clearly wasn't at the Ram Bowl.

## **This Is Why We Cover the 941**

You don't need a Saturday afternoon television window.

You don't need a playoff committee.

And you definitely don't need somebody screaming about strength of schedule for three hours.

Sometimes you just need two local programs, Friday night lights and a scoreboard operator putting in overtime.

Riverview and Manatee gave Sarasota-Bradenton high school football **96 reasons** to pay attention.

Different schools.

Different counties.

One wild night.

And two points between them.

## **What's Next**

Riverview takes its **4–1 record** into district play, hosting Lehigh on Friday, September 25 in a Class 6A District 12 matchup.

The biggest challenge might be forgetting about this one quickly enough to prepare for the next one. Emotional wins are fun on Friday. By Monday, the film room doesn't care.

Manatee, now **3–2**, travels to Sumner for a Class 5A District 10 matchup.

The Hurricanes already proved they can score.

Next assignment: score 47 and actually get to celebrate afterward.

## **Sideline Take**

This one came down to the smallest things.

One failed two-point conversion.

One recovered onside kick.

**Two points.**

That's it.

Riverview didn't cruise past Manatee.

The Rams **survived** Manatee.

And after Bussiere and Flores combined for six rushing touchdowns, Downes threw three scores for the Hurricanes, and Manatee came within one conversion of tying the whole thing, Riverview finally grabbed the football and refused to give it back.

**Riverview 49\. Manatee 47.**

If that's not a **Sanchez Sideline Game of the Week**, we're going to need somebody to explain what it is.

**Local teams. Real stories. No PR answers.**
