The Wings Just Sent a Message to Vegas
The Wings Just Sent a Message to Vegas
If you thought the Las Vegas Aces still held a permanent lease inside the heads of the Dallas Wings, think again. The Wings just tore up the lease, changed the locks, and threw a Texas-sized party.
On Thursday night, Dallas (5-3) snapped a brutal five-game losing streak against the Aces from last season with a statement 95-87 victory in Arlington. And they didn't just win—they did it by letting the rest of the WNBA know that the future in Dallas has officially arrived.
Jessica Shepard’s Historical Stat Sheet
Let’s start with Jessica Shepard, who didn't just put up a stat line; she practically rewrote the laws of physics on the hardwood. Shepard dropped a monstrous triple-double, exploding for 22 points, a career-high 20 rebounds, and 10 assists.
This wasn't some quiet achievement either. Shepard took over when it mattered most:
She poured in 11 points in the third quarter alone, tying the game at 72.
She opened the fourth quarter with a bucket to give Dallas its first lead since the opening frame.
She officially secured the triple-double with 2:57 left in the game, dishing an assist to Awak Kuier for a clutch triple to put Dallas up 90-81.
This marks Shepard's second triple-double of the young season, following an 18-point, 10-rebound, 12-assist masterclass against Chicago back on May 20.
The UConn Connection Takes Over Dallas
While Shepard anchored the paint, the Wings' newly minted superstar backcourt put on an absolute clinic.
Azzi Fudd, making her very first WNBA career start after being selected No. 1 overall in the April draft, looked completely unfazed by the championship pedigree across the floor. Fresh off a 24-point bucket-fest against New York as a reserve, Fudd matched Shepard with 22 points of her own.
Not to be outdone, her former collegiate partner-in-crime, Paige Bueckers, tacked on 20 points and 6 assists, including a cold-blooded 3-pointer from the top of the key right after Shepard's historic assist to stretch the Dallas lead to 12.
What makes this offensive onslaught even more terrifying? The Wings did almost all of this while franchise anchor Arike Ogunbowale was heavily limited to just 18 minutes due to an illness. When Arike is under the weather and your squad still hangs 95 on the Aces, you know you're deep.
Box Score Breakdown
Team Q1/Q2 Total Q3/Q4 Total Final Score
Las Vegas Aces 53 34 87
Dallas Wings 45 50 95
For Vegas (4-3), the second half was an absolute defensive nightmare. After going into the locker room with the upper hand, they were completely outscored 50-34 in the final two frames. A’ja Wilson fought hard for her 21 points, Jackie Young added 15, and Chennedy Carter tried to set the tone early with 12 of her 14 points in the first half, but the Aces simply ran out of gas. This marks back-to-back losses for the reigning heavyweights.
The Verdict: Last year's dominance doesn't mean a thing in 2026. Dallas has length; they have a historic nightly triple-double threat in Shepard, and they have a rookie class that is playing like seasoned veterans. Consider the league officially warned.
