A’ja Wilson Gives Connecticut an Absolute Audit: 45 Points on Disgusting Efficiency

UNCASVILLE, Conn. — There are bad nights at the office, and then there is being on the receiving end of an absolute, data-backed demolition courtesy of A’ja Wilson.

The Las Vegas Aces strolled into Connecticut on Friday night and walked away with a 101-94 victory, but let’s stop pretending this was a team effort. This was an historical eviction notice served single-handedly by Wilson, who dropped 45 points on the short-handed Sun.

And if you think she just chucked up shots all night, let’s run the numbers for The Sanchez Audit. Wilson went a ridiculous 15-for-18 from the field and a cold-blooded 13-for-13 from the charity stripe. That isn't just hot shooting; that is high-efficiency basketball violence. She literally set a new franchise record for the most points scored against the Sun in their history, erasing Betty Lennox's 44-point mark from all the way back in 2008.

The Anatomy of a Momentum Killer

Give the Sun credit for trying to script a dramatic comeback. Down 69-56 in the third quarter, Saniya Rivers caught absolute fire, sparking a 14-3 run with back-to-back triples to cut the Aces' lead to a tight 72-70. The home crowd was loud, the momentum was shifting, and Connecticut thought they had a movie cooking.

Then A’ja Wilson decided recess was over.

Coming out of a timeout, Wilson walked onto the floor, hit a cold-blooded three-pointer to instantly mute the arena, and then converted a brutal three-point play on the very next possession. Boom. 78-70. That six-point personal flex triggered a 16-4 blitz that officially sent the Sun to a miserable 0-4 start on the season.

The Supporting Cast (And Some Local Bench Magic)

While A’ja was busy rewriting record books, she had some elite help:

  • Chennedy Carter chipped in 18 points, continuing a stellar start to her revenge tour season after spending last year overseas.

  • On the flip side, the short-handed Sun were missing Brittney Griner (left foot) and Olivia Nelson-Ododa (ankle).

  • Even with a depleted roster, Connecticut’s bench actually outscored Vegas' reserves 47-26. Hailey Van Lith notched a career-high 17 points, while Aneesah Morrow grabbed her third straight double-double (10 points, 10 rebounds).

But bench depth doesn't mean much when you don't have an answer for a literal basketball cheat code. The Aces have now racked up 10 straight consecutive wins over Connecticut.

Up Next: Las Vegas wraps up their four-game road trip right in our neck of the woods in Atlanta on Sunday, while Connecticut heads to Portland on Monday to try and finally find a win column. Grab your popcorn.
