Aliyah Boston Finally Finds the Secret Whistle
The Indiana Fever were facing elimination, and everyone knew Aliyah Boston had to do more than just survive defending MVP A’ja Wilson. She needed to turn into an offensive monster. And on Sunday, she did just that, exploding for 24 points, 14 rebounds, and five assists to lead the Fever to a thrilling 90-83 win, forcing a decisive Game 5.
The Free Throw Fiesta
Boston, who had been frustratingly quiet on offense, decided she was tired of sharing the ball. She took a whopping 13 free throws in Game 4—a number that surpasses her total from the first three games combined! Meanwhile, the entire Aces team only managed 11 free-throw attempts. This gave the Fever a plus-23 free-throw margin, the second-largest in WNBA playoff history.
Boston’s ability to get to the line was so dominant that she almost singlehandedly put the entire Las Vegas starting lineup in foul trouble. Even A’ja Wilson couldn't help but laugh after the game, recalling a moment when Boston joked about having a "special whistle." Well, it seems the whistle finally showed up for the Fever in Game 4.
Aces Coach Is Not Amused
Aces head coach Becky Hammon, whose team is now facing a sudden-death Game 5, was not amused by the lopsided officiating. "I did appreciate it was a little tighter call," Hammon said, "but tighter on both ends would have been nice." Translation: We felt robbed, but we'll deal with it.
The Fever, who were desperate for a win, survived another classic. Now, the series heads back to Las Vegas for a winner-take-all Game 5 on Tuesday. If Boston can channel her inner offensive superstar once more, the Fever might just pull off the ultimate upset.
