SANCHEZ SIDELINE MEDIA | FLORIDA HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL | OCTOBER 9, 2026
Palmetto takes care of Manatee, Braden River delivers a shutout, and Venice keeps rolling as Southwest Florida football heats up.
Friday night brought another round of decisive victories across Southwest Florida. From rivalry matchups to dominant defensive performances, five teams walked away with wins, and several made their statements loud and clear.
For Sanchez Sideline Media, the spotlight was on Palmetto and Manatee in our Game of the Week, but the Tigers weren't the only team making noise.
Game of the Week: Palmetto 37, Manatee 14
Palmetto made sure the Sanchez Sideline Game of the Week belonged to the Tigers.
Coming into Friday's matchup, Palmetto was 5-1 and Manatee was 4-3. The matchup carried plenty of local interest, and the Tigers responded with a convincing 37-14 victory.
Palmetto didn't just win. The Tigers put 37 points on the board against a Manatee program that knows what it means to play in big games.
The 23-point margin was a statement for a Palmetto team looking to establish itself as a serious contender as the regular season moves toward its final stretch.
For Manatee, the loss raises questions about consistency and how quickly the Hurricanes can regroup.
The Sanchez Sideline Take: Palmetto came into our Game of the Week with something to prove and walked away with a result that speaks for itself. The Tigers are building a résumé that deserves attention. The question now is whether they can carry that momentum into the postseason.
Riverview 42, North Port 7
Riverview put together one of the night's most convincing performances, cruising past North Port 42-7.
The Rams' offense produced six touchdowns' worth of points while their defense held North Port to just seven.
A 35-point victory is the kind of result that can give a team confidence heading into the final weeks of the regular season.
The Sanchez Sideline Take: Riverview took care of business. Scoring 42 points is impressive, but limiting an opponent to seven is just as important. The Rams showed the kind of two-way production that can make a difference in meaningful late-season games.
Braden River 31, Southeast 0
If there's one thing that will always get our attention at Sanchez Sideline, it's a shutout.
Braden River blanked Southeast 31-0, delivering one of Friday night's strongest defensive results.
The Pirates put 31 points on the scoreboard while keeping the Seminoles completely out of the end zone and off the scoreboard.
As the postseason approaches, defensive performances like this become increasingly important. Offenses can have difficult nights, but a defense capable of putting up a zero gives its team a fighting chance.
The Sanchez Sideline Take: Braden River deserves its flowers for this one. A shutout is never something to overlook. The Pirates didn't simply beat Southeast; they kept the Seminoles scoreless for four quarters.
Cardinal Mooney 55, Bayshore 7
Cardinal Mooney delivered the highest-scoring performance among our five featured winners Friday night, overwhelming Bayshore 55-7.
The Cougars' 48-point margin of victory was also the largest in this week's recap.
Putting up 55 points is a statement in itself. Pair that with a defense that surrendered only seven, and Cardinal Mooney produced one of the most lopsided results of the night.
For Bayshore, the challenge will be putting this result behind them and finding a way to respond.
The Sanchez Sideline Take: Fifty-five points will get anybody's attention. Cardinal Mooney continues to be a program worth watching, and this performance gives the Cougars another reason to feel confident about their direction.
Venice 49, Lakewood Ranch 14
Venice continued its winning ways Friday night with a commanding 49-14 victory over Lakewood Ranch.
The Indians put up seven touchdowns' worth of points and finished with a 35-point margin of victory.
Venice has built a reputation as one of the area's most respected football programs, and performances like this are exactly why opposing teams know they have to bring their best.
For Lakewood Ranch, the loss serves as a reminder of the challenge that comes with facing established programs capable of producing explosive offensive performances.
The Sanchez Sideline Take: Venice doesn't need an introduction around Florida high school football. The Indians have established a standard, and a 49-point showing reinforces why they're always part of the conversation when postseason football approaches.

Final Whistle: October Football Is Different
We're getting deeper into October, and this is where high school football starts to separate teams that are simply having good seasons from teams capable of making serious postseason runs.
Palmetto delivered under the Game of the Week spotlight. Braden River's defense dominated. Cardinal Mooney piled on the points. Venice continued its winning ways. And Riverview made sure its name belonged in the conversation.
But here's the thing about October football: last week's victory doesn't guarantee anything next Friday.
The teams that stay disciplined, healthy, and consistent will be the ones still playing when the stakes get even higher.
