UConn Women Continue Their "We Hate Parity"
The UConn women’s basketball team has apparently decided that "close games" are for people with weak constitutions and bad heart health. This week, the No. 1 Huskies treated two quality opponents less like rivals and more like traffic cones on a driver's ed course.
Here is how Geno Auriemma’s squad ruined the holidays for Marquette and Iowa.
Wednesday: The Marquette Massacre
UConn 89, Marquette 53
On Wednesday night, UConn hosted Marquette in their final home game of 2025. The Huskies finished the calendar year 14-0 at home, with an average margin of victory of 44 points. To put that in perspective, that is not a basketball statistic; that is a bullying indictment.
Sarah Strong led the charge with 22 points and 7 rebounds, and she did it all in three quarters. That’s right—she clocked out early to beat traffic. UConn led 73-29 after the third quarter, allowing the starters to spend the entire fourth quarter hydrating and discussing their New Year’s resolutions while the bench finished the job.
Azzi Fudd chipped in 14 points, while Blanca Quinones (12 points) and Serah Williams (11 points) ensured Marquette had no fun whatsoever. The Golden Eagles actually won the fourth quarter 24-16, which is the moral victory equivalent of finding a penny after losing your wallet.
Saturday: The NYC "Showdown"
UConn 90, Iowa 64
After bored-cleaning Marquette, the Huskies headed to New York City for the Women's Champions Classic against No. 11 Iowa. This was supposed to be a test. It was not a test. It was a lecture.
The dynamic duo of Azzi Fudd (27 points) and Sarah Strong (23 points, 6 steals) played a cruel game of "Good Cop, Bad Cop."
First Half: Strong was the problem. She dropped 20 points and swiped 5 steals before the break. At one point, she stole the ball and went coast-to-coast for a layup, essentially telling the Iowa defense, "I’ll do it myself."
Second Half: Fudd took over. She scored 21 of her 27 points after halftime, ensuring Iowa never got closer than nine points.
The Huskies are now 12-0, having beaten four ranked teams. Iowa’s Hannah Stuelke scored 17 points, but trying to stop this UConn offense is like trying to stop a freight train with a stern look.
The Verdict
UConn heads into the holidays undefeated and terrifying. They visit Butler on Dec. 28. If you know anyone at Butler, please send them a "Thinking of You" card. They’re going to need it.
