Skytown Gets a Defensive Nightmare
The Chicago Sky are clearly tired of watching other teams celebrate, and they just added some serious "no-fly zone" energy to the roster. Sanchez Sideline is officially on notice: Skytown just got a lot tougher.
The Sky officially announced the signing of guard/forward DiJonai Carrington on Sunday, plugging a glaring hole on the wing with one of the most feared perimeter defenders in the league. While the team is keeping the contract details under wraps, the message is loud and clear—Chicago is building a wall.
The Missing Piece
General Manager Jeff Pagliocca didn't mince words about the newest addition:
“She brings speed, defense, versatility and a fierce competitive spirit... we can’t wait to see her electrify Skytown.”
Let’s be real: after a 10-34 season and missing the playoffs for the second straight year, the Sky needed more than just a spark; they needed a flamethrower. Carrington, a former Most Improved Player and All-Defensive First Team selection, is exactly that.
A Busy Offseason in Chicago
Carrington isn't the only big name walking through those doors. The Sky front office has been playing General Manager Tycoon at an elite level this offseason:
The Backcourt Upgrade: Signed All-Star PG Skylar Diggins.
The Return: Brought back veteran legend Courtney Vandersloot.
The Trade: Swapped Ariel Atkins for the high-upside Rickea Jackson.
By The Numbers
Carrington’s journey to Chicago has been a masterclass in "grinding to the top."
The Breakout: In 2024 with Connecticut, she exploded for 12.7 PPG and 1.6 SPG, nearly snagging the Defensive Player of the Year award (finishing 4th).
The Journey: After four years with the Sun, she split 2025 between Dallas and Minnesota. In her 11 games with the Lynx, she was efficient as ever, shooting a blistering 45.5% from deep.
The Pedigree: A winner at every level, from a national powerhouse at Stanford to a Sixth Player of the Year at Baylor.
Why This Matters
For head coach Tyler Marsh, Carrington is the ultimate "Swiss Army Knife." She can guard the opponent's best player, run the floor with Skylar Diggins, and hit the corner three when the defense collapses.
The Sky open their 2026 campaign on Saturday, May 9, against the expansion Portland Fire. If you’re Portland, you’ve got to be a little nervous—because Skytown just added a "stopper" who specializes in ruining homecoming parties.
Welcome to Chicago, DiJonai. Let’s get to work! 🏙️locked
